The PAX Blizzcon Booth. Hearthstone on this side and Diablo 2 on the PS3 on the other side.
John and I went to our third PAX East last weekend, and I think it was the best one yet. Part of that may have been that we made the most of it, knowing that we weren’t going to Gen Con this year. And part of that may have been that the show really does just keep getting better. The organizers, enforcers, and BCEC do a great job at organizing the crowds, lines, gaggles, and herds of gamers.
Card games really jumped out at me this year!
Popcap had a fun booth.
I played a Magic TCG minimasters tournament, Ascension
(the tabletop version, as I had previously only played on my iPhone), SolForge
on the iPad, and of course Blizzard’s newly announced Hearthstone
Other games I played:
Octodad: Very different and interesting!)
Super Time Force: Platform shooter with time mechanic similar to Viewtiful Joe. Out on XBox Live Arcade later this year. I played it only very briefly, but it was interesting enough that I’ll look for it when it’s out.
Neverwinter: MMO coming out later this year. My quick session left me with the impression that it’s a little like Diablo: the MMO. A lot of clicking and fast moving and killing stuff and getting loots! Interested to see how challenging it gets.
Arcade games! Trivial Pursuit, Pong, Phoenix, Jail Break, and Around the World Pinball!
New Super Mario Bros. U I don’t have a Wii U. I probably won’t get one. This was a nice way to spend 30 minutes in the free console play area. John and I played co-op, which I had never done in a Mario game before.
Puzzle Strike, a tabletop game that combines deck-building with the classic Puzzle Fighter video game.
Other fun stuff I did! Went to the Strip Search panel, designed a game in 15 minutes, and got some Chandra goggles.
Blizzard was giving out little heartstone keychains to people who played Heartstone at their booth!
