So this past week I posted some sketches of Chloe and Bink participating in olympic sports. I was really happy with the sketchy style, so I’m trying it out on the comic!
I like Chloe in the third panel and the card in the fourth, but the rest is… kind of hard to see? The lines on the face get in the way. That or it could just be my Asperger’s going “no comprendo”… but yeah, for what it’s worth, without the face sketch-lines, it’s an interesting change.
I’m assuming that these drawings are intentionally with the sketch lines and the bleeding etc. In any case I like it … even though there is a flying fairy cat Death knight
Having just caught up (just started from comic one yesterday due to a link from AbstruseGoose) and seeing all the evolution of the artwork; this is a neat tribute to sort of “where you came from in the art.” I can sort of see how your drawings have become cleaner and more well-defined and this style really brings that front and center. I’m addicted, so whether you continue in this style or not I’ll keep reading. Thanks for the comics so far!
Panel 1:
Bink: Finally! We're in production of our trading card game, Hairballs: The Retching! You should really accentuate the whiskers.
Chloe is drawing on a card and looks back at Bink.
Panel 2:
Bink: And maybe add a sun in the corner?
Chloe looks annoyed.
Panel 3:
Bink: Ooh, and shoulder pads with spikes!
Chloe (shoving the card into Bink) YOU finish it!
Panel 4:
Reveal the card - It's the Angel of Fur a 5/3 Cat Angel creature with Flying and Whisker Strike. Bink has added his touches to it in a crude manner.

That card is OP. Unless other cards in the game are stronger, it’s going to rack up a high price in the singles market.

The sketch style is neat, but I don’t really like it for the regular comic. In any case, the red face lines are very distracting.
Hey, don’t talk to Mary about the red lines, talk to Bink!
And while you’re at it, remember that this is a >>cat<< drawing those cards. Well, two cats.
Holy crap, a talking cat!
He was talking about the lines on Chloe and Binks faces.

Hey! I came from Abstruse Goose too!
Welcome to the club brother – and I couldn’t agree with you more about the artwork
I’m sorry to see you are cutting back on your comic. I should take this time and re-visit your archives.
Hey Mary,
Love the sketchy style! And coloring outside the lines gives the drawings a playful pop. Let this be known as your “Sketchy Phase.”
