I bow to Pink Martini Bink! You just took him to a whole new level.
A question about the guildmeet: How many attended and was everyone a New Yorker?

    • maryvarn

Yep, all New Yorkers, but it was just two others besides my boyfriend and myself. We’re basically a guild of five IRL friends, and occasionally other people drop in and out.

You will never learn all the cards in Magic, I think they print at least 500 new cards per year. But that doesn’t keep it from being a fun game :-) I tend to go for casual multiplayer games myself, decks that are designed for fun rather than to win every game, like my 1100+ unique card deck.

Another fun card game I was introduced to recently is Sentinels of the Multiverse. So far everyone I’ve seen play that game loves it!

I’ll have to check out Sentinels, thanks for the recommendation.

I’m actually surprised at how casual friendly Magic is, or can be anyway. I guess I’ve been intimidated by the competitive tournaments and money spent crazy decks, but I’m realizing it doesn’t have to be that way for everyone.

I can’t be out of money, I still have checks left!

Magic is awesome, I go for the casual games as well. Way more fun when you get to try out a new idea for a deck without worrying if you win all the time. We will often play with 30 life just to give our decks a little more time to breath.

Have you played commander? I guess it’s a style of play that uses 100 card decks (I think?) and you have 40 life. I played one game and it was really fun. A little long, but a lot of ups and downs and close calls.

Mary, That is Commander or EDH, 99 card deck with no repeats other than basic lands, all cards in the deck have to share color with the Commander/Elder Dragon (So if its a Mono-black commander, you can only have black and colorless cards in your deck). Its a pretty fun casual game.

The big Steam sales are wonderful, horrible, horrible, wonderful times for me.

Magic the Addiction? We’ll remember you… always.

I can’t believe you’re so into WoW and aren’t playing the WoW TCG game. It’s actually a lot like Magic, but I find it more fun and it follows the WoW lore. I highly recommend trying it out, as it may be more of your cup of tea.

    • maryvarn

That’s good to hear that the WoW TCG is fun! My only experience with it are the loot cards. :D I’m playing Magic because my boyfriend recently got way back into it, and I had never played this game I heard so much about. He still had a ton of cards from when he played in junior high, and there’s a store (Twenty Sided Store) he’s been going to that seems to have a great community around Magic. They run games multiple times a week, so it’s just much easier for him to find people to play Magic with than the WoW TCG.

But your comment and my new experience with Magic make want to give WoW TCG a try sometime for sure.

i was going to suggest the WoW TCG as well. i prefur it over magic myself. if you know how to play one, you know about 80% of the rules for the other, they are very similar :)
