Dose not come as a surprise really. What with the debarkle of last year.

The release of MOP video was met with tumbleweeds and WTF. It looked like a 1/2 done assignment, worked on the night before.

The absolutely disgusting behavior of a D grade metal band.
Cr@p grinder systematically isolated and then promptly abused 1/2 the player base of WOW.
Blizzards then failure to even apologize for said pathetic performance makes it worse.
(note the behavior was a direct violation of Blizzards' code of conduct.)

The Q&A? any question about MOP was met with "yea its still work in progress
but it will be out real soon, trust us."

The only exceptable excuse is we stuffed it up royally and wont do that again for a while
the BS about being too busy or it costing them money is a farce.
They generated over 10 million in ticket sales. If you cant hire an event coordinator
to organize such an event with that kind of budget then maybe you shouldn't.

To clarify my vote on "Other", I think its because they realized that MOP has had such mixed reactions, even moreso than previous expansions. It's hard to really get a clear picture of who loves/hates MOP, and that I think pushes them to concentrate on the content of the upcoming expansion like they never have before. It feels like there is this high level sense of urgency that wasn't very prevalent with previous expansions (they had a better idea of what they were doing, they believed in it, and they got players to believe in that vision as well). Because of that, I think they realized that MOP will be a harder vision to sell. And unlike before it seems that 2012 offers much more competitive alternatives compared to in previous years.

In short, they don't know what they want to say about MOP to the public, which would have definitely been one of the core spotlights of Blizzcon. And with Diablo 3 still unreleased, although there is Starcraft 2's various expansions, there really isn't much to talk about in Blizzcon, and Blizzcon is not Blizzcon if there is now WoW in it somewhere.

One less Blizzcon is one Blizzon less missed.
With Blizzcon being in California it's half way around the world to Europeans.
Yes, we too would like to attend but all we get is some lame world wide invitational and nothing serious in terms of a show.

Just as Blizz pointed out: they wouldn't have much content. IMO they are dying as a game company unless they step it up a notch.which is sad, so much had come from blizzard. Also I want to note: I would be pissed I had started my costume and them found this out.

On the one hand, I really wanted to go to Blizzcon this year. It would have been my first time; but then again, I probably wouldn't have made it since I'm also getting married AND buying a house this year (lots of expenses, ya know).

Aside from all personal reason, though, I think I actually feel pleased about not having a Blizzcon this year, and the reason is simple: in mind, No Blizzcon = MoP released 2nd to 3rd quarter!!
Just think about it: not doing a Con this year means they'll have more resources to put into the expansion release; and also they probably wouldn't have a whole lot to talk about once if it had already been released, no? :D
