I have a feeling I’m missing some of the humor in this one just because I’ve never played board games (my family plays a whole lotta poker, though xD), but I’ve gotta say that the style of your comic is getting way better! I’m thoroughly impressed!
Everytime I mention that I want to open a gaming store, people always say “like monopoly?”. Your comic reminds me of the above video podcast. And yes, I would buy/play test his game.
I was working on a boardgame about seafaring traders building a trading empire across a land-bound ocean. I had a lot of the concept down and was working on some mechanics when I saw a game at the store that had many of the elements I had in mind (as well as others that I didn’t think of). I guess my idea was a little too late (or it was too ambitiosly derivative).
Panel 1:
Mike: (at a bar, to bartender) What kind of drink do you recommend while designing a board game?
Bartender: Oh cool, like monopoly?
Panel 2:
Mike: No, no - more like a cross between Agricola and Catan, with some Talisman thrown in. And a scifi-fantasy-horror-robot theme!
Panel 3:
Mike: And there'll be little wooden meeples that represent exploding monsters. Creeples!
Panel 4:
Randy: Hi there. I'm Randy Rogers of RaRo Board Games. You should give us a call. Your idea is just what we're looking for.
Panel 5:
Mike: Elegantly complex?
RaRo: Ambitiously derivative.

If an Idea is worth having, It’s worth copying as well. He should definitely include cats in the game though.

Creeples… Must… Resist… To… Download… Minecraft… Again…
Seems legit.
If it’s going to be derivative, be ambitious about it.
I am actually designing a board game right now too. Sci-Fi RPG. All I can say about the project, rest is classified
