Just a Phase

Knitting is always entertaining for the kitties, though. I crochet, and often have wrestling matches with Simon (my cat) who feels the balls of yarn are his by eminent domain…

Aw cute. :) The problem with our cats is that they’d eat the yarn. Gobble it all up. Nom nom nom.

The first time I tried knitting something, I could NOT keep my dog away from the yarn. Then I bought bamboo needles, and managed to start learning how to knit….. And she ate the needles.

I notice a huge amount of feet. Actually I don’t remember seeing naked feet in any of your comics – which doesn’t mean, there are none and actually there are some (I just checked ^^). Must be summer …

An MMO really has to make sure it has replayability in order to keep its players. Repetition leads to grind which leads to burnout.

I can relate to Mike here. When I started playing WoW, I took things slow. I wanted to enjoy everything the game had to offer, each dungeon and experience on the way to max level. It was frustrating putting together groups for Maraudon or RFK and especially Outland because only a few wanted to do it- everyone else was max level and doing Wrath.

I eventually decided to stop my slow pace and go where the action was. However, when I hit max level and the end game, all I ended up doing where Heroics over and over for the smallest chances of getting raid gear. It got so monotonous I burned out. I quit WoW before the end of 2009.

Upon my decision to quit, I looked back and realized my best experiences in WoW were indeed doing the little stuff on the way up. The BC dungeons were so empty but among the ones I most enjoyed. Same for The Sunken Temple and Zul’Farrak. I think the most rewarding experience I had was working on the Nagrand quest line where Thrall returns to his homeland to meet his grandma (and- ugh- Garrosh).

I traded all that for the end game. It wasn’t worth it.

Sorry for the long post, but I just had to share.

I can relate to mike too… Would YOU be willing to tank a random heroic rather than take out the trash? I would!

I recently quit WoW for a few reasons, this being one of them. The game sometimes just doesn’t keep your attention, if you know what I mean. I found myself logging on, jumping around in Orgrimmar/Ironforge for twenty minutes until I got bored of waiting for some heroic that I’d done a million times over. And now that I’ve got a bunch of achievements, played a bunch of race/class combos, and got to the good stuff, they introduce the Firelands. The disappointing, evil Firelands.

    UGH.

This strip looks especially good given that all five frames center on the sofa. Frame 2′s foreshortening in particular looks great!

Thanks – and thanks to my boyfriend John, for helping me take photos for reference. And then running a dungeon with the guild and me. :D

I love Chloe in the fourth panel!

    • Dave

lol I know, Chole was the best part :D Love that cat!

  8. Tides

Chloe in frame 4 is so much like what my cat would do, I’m very amused by her in this.

    I love this Comic.

How can Mike be bored with Steam’s Summer Sale going on. My WoW subscription was renewing at the beginning of June, but I cancelled it because of the upcoming summer sale (that and I needed to take a break). For those that don’t know, Valve is a company that brought us Halflife. A while back they created http://www.steampowered.com, a software distribution site and signed up a bunch of publishers (big ones like Bethesda Soft, EA, 2k, etc. and little indies too.)

NOTE: If you are tight on cash, ignore this post (maybe I should have put that at the beginning of the post).

PS: I love this comic too, thanks for making it.

  11. Esme

    LOL I love Chloe’s pose in panel 3 :D
    Hahaha someone looks desperate xD

  12. Esme

Oops I mean panel 4 hehe xD

Why is he knitting upside down… he must be really good to keep the stiches on the needles!

Also, I’m thinking of coming back to WoW to check out the troll dungeons and 4.2… Still haven’t decided though. How much fun is the new content?

    • prion

it’s pretty good. I can’t evaluate what’s fun for you, but having the troll dungeons AND Firelands to play with should keep you interested for a while. You can always unsub again if they don’t hold your attention.

BTW, my strategy with the hyjal/molten front dailies is too mostly do them while i am waiting in queue, in other words i don’t sit there for two hours and grind it all out. I dont finish them all every day but i’m not bored to tears either.

  14. Suffuri

Meh, I burned out after a bit, PVP and my arena partner paying kept me going, but in the end… It was more of a Task than a game. But, 4.2 gave 7 free days so I popped in to chat with guildies and run a heroic.
