Not That Into…

Oh no! My husband interrupted my mining in minecraft to show me this cartoon. But I did raid last night…not all is lost :)

  2. Delakando

Release the patch already blizzard. Cataclysm didn’t have enough to catch everyone’s attention so it failed expectations!

  3. Goldie Katsu

Unfortunately I don’t think it is the amount of content, there are other factors that I think have caused some of the drift. That said I am looking forward to the patch, I think it will help in a few areas.

  4. Alex

No! the cupcake is dead :O

    • Eirik

My question is, who the heck puts jelly filling or frosting on the inside of a cupcake?

… what? What did YOU think it bled?

      • maryvarn

I actually have a bunch of cupcake recipes that involve putting a filling inside – but I’m always too lazy to make them since they involve cutting the top off in this certain way and placing it back just so.

  5. Adam

Now all he needs are some underwater pigs.

  6. CriticalQuit

How the heck is he playing with a mouseless laptop?! If I tried that I wouldn’t be able to aim or fight at all.

    • maryvarn

I wondered that myself while I was drawing this and just went with it. :D

      • CriticalQuit

Eh, some people are just good with a mouse. A friend of mine can play Mirror’s Edge with one. I myself just went ahead and bought an 8 dollar mouse to go with mine. Works just fine.

    • Maevrim

I actually know two people who play/ed without a mouse on laptops. One of them finally got a desktop, but quit WoW before playing with a mouse, and the other finally got a mouse after playing since beta without one–it deeply confused her.

    • Lycinder-Rabbit

You get used to it, I use my mouseless laptop to play MMOs and Minecraft and I get along just fine.
I have even played FPS’s well on this laptop.

    • unknownloner

I figured catbook pros came with some new age brain reading technology to replace the mouse. after all, who would use a mouse in combonation with a CATbook

  7. bman (The Underfold)

    Minecraft… I still don’t get the attraction…

    • unknownloner

you just haven’t played it enough

  8. WoWitsme

    Minecraft!!!!!!!!!!!!! Epic!!!!!!!!!

  9. Kimberly

I just told my guy yesterday that Catclysm made me hate the end game and love leveling up. Which is completely opposite how I’ve played for the last 5 years. I can’t explain it.

    • eirik

After tanking heroics for 2.5 hours and having to bow out because I work in the morning, and after (other instances) getting repeatedly kicked with no warning after the first pull – sometimes DURING the first pull… I might have an idea why you hate the end game….

    • Adam

It’s not just Heroics. Healed Gnomer (/boo) on my Priest alt yesterday, had a Rogue jump down the ledge while we were still clearing up top. He waited about 6 seconds, and dropped group because we didn’t run down and rez him. I’m using a Mulligan to wipe it and keep my “no deaths” streak intact, since there’s no healing stupidity.

      • Jerry

5-man HC hard to call endgame, especially after nerfs…if you meet some mad people via LFD, well people kickig good tank are mad for sure…
Raid encounters done nice and entertaining, with diversity of mechanics For leveling..wel it become more trivial (didn’t found a single quest now, including soloing a group quests that requires a variuos tries and smart chaining of abilities to overcome).
So for questing its only some nostalgia + refreshed content?

  10. Amaxe

I get the feeling that Blizz was counting on people going through the new 1-60 to make up for the lack of 81-85 content.

The problem is, everyone gets the new 1-60 content whether they pay for Cataclysm or not. So basically we’ve paid $39.99 for Old World flight. Goblins/Worgens and “On the rails” 81-85 questing.

Seems to me we have a rushed project which needs to be expanded each patch (new quests, not just raids) to match the scope of previous xpacs.

  11. Cass

    Nooo!!! Not the Cupcake!!!

  12. MoonPuppy

But what do Chloe and Bink think about Rift? Oh noes!

    • Redhawks

I’m sure they have found some way to farm platinum in Rift. They have to save up for iPad 3 since Catbot probably won’t send them another one free.

  13. Missyjean

Methinks you should give Rift a try! WoW is cool and all, but sometimes you gotta try other stuff!

  14. Samxcore

Rift is awesome and Wow is boring. I’m still raiding, but only because I’m paid up until July.

  15. maryvarn

I was way late on the Rift beta and tried it in the last hour it was live. Doh! Not enough time to give me a feel for it. Hopefully I can try it again. I’m curious, why do people like it so much? Is it like WoW but a different world, or does it actually involve different gameplay?

    • sweatyapple

I played Rift for about a month. I liked the versatility of the classes and being able to have what seemed like countless specs. The whole “rift” aspect was great for getting people in the same zone to interact with one another and work towards a common goal. For people like me, who like to solo, it’s the first game I’ve felt that did this successfully. At the same time after reaching level 20 something it just felt too repetitive. But it could be that I’m just getting bored of mmo’s in general

    • khovelle

Mary, if you liked wow then I imagine you would love rift. it has all the fun quests like a good mmo should, events escalate as your fruit grows to make it more challenging or solo obtainable. Just be warned you.will.have major issues if you dont have a decent graphics card. I ran wow on max and had to buy a new card, I couldnt play rift on the lowest settings. And they upped the graphics since the beta. If they do another friend trial ill send a key your way

    • maryvarn

I gotta say, I really like the idea of the rifts. I LOVE world events in WoW, like the kind that occur before expansions. Everyone running around to kill something that popped up in town or wherever, the excitement in the air… That’s the one thing that makes me want to try Rift.
Otherwise, I’m not that into trying more of the same MMORPG stuff. I’m interested in a persistent world game that’s totally different from the current model. Like Minecraft multiplayer. :D

    • AngerFork

They’re doing another trial thingie this weekend. If you like, I’m playing it and can get you a key! :)

The Rift system is nice, but it does get annoying from time to time. It adds, but it’s insane to not be able to do a quest because a rift has opened right over the mobs you need to kill.

  16. Joakim

I believe that one of the pigs killed the cupcake.. AND I WANT REVENGE!

  17. raeglatem

HAHAHA Underwater Pig farm. I’ve decided to build a world within a world in minecraft. Then I got lazy and played wow.

  18. Zenoa

All the cupcake wanted was some more attention other than in the background and now it’s gone and killed it self NOOOO!!! And how come they haven’t noticed

  19. Faedwen

I haven’t checked out Rift, but I’ve been having the same feeling about cata, not really enjoying WoW lately. I’ve started this new free MMO called Vindictus, It’s pretty cool. Fun gameplay, cool physics system. http://vindictus.nexon.net/
You should check it out :)

    • maryvarn

Oh yeah, that does look cool! And FREE. Sweet. Thanks, I may just have to try it.

  20. jared

wow bores the crap out of me at the moment. I have done the new leveling stuff and the 80-85 quests on 2 characters, bought all the available epic gear, and done a few raids. everytime I log on i last about ten minutes and then go and play civilization 4 (not civ 5 because its crap). I can’t even be bothered doing the daily dungeon because the pugs you get nowadays usually suck, but to be fair they don’t suck as bad as the cata dungeons.
sigh… cata i such a dissapointment I have had to actually go get a life…

    • eirik

I don’t have a problem with the cata dungeons… they are what they are. And the heroics are difficult and much more time consuming than the Wrath ones. On the other hand, I too still play civ 4 (because I decline to use Steam).

  21. lolmaster

i <3 thew bloody cup cake in the background

  22. Blade

    I… cancelled my WoW account.
I’ve been at full-time university and part-time work and simply havent had the time… I was full-on in Wrath… and then got Cata… and was… less than impressed…
Not that it wasn’t fun, just that it was the *same* fun… sure the quests were a bit different… but I have limited time and quite frankly would rather play other games that don’t cost me a monthly charge (that I haven’t been getting my money’s worth for almost a year for) .
Know what I wouldn’t mind setting an afternoon aside for?
    Some old-school D&D…
I wonder what Chloe and Bink (and Lisa and Mike) might enjoy some good old fashioned table top rpg…
Or some off-the wall stuff… like CoH / DCUO or EVE online…

  23. gvsumathnut

I also have grown tired of WOW. It just doesn’t feel as epic and crazy. It might be me growing older or the formula for fun is not right in this espansion. Even though the prior wrath expansion was slightly too easy it was ALOT more fun.

  24. Spicytacoman

    MARYMARYMARY!!
Awesome things happen!!!!!!! I just stopped playing WoW for a little while and started playing minecraft… and I JUST made an underwater pig farm the other day!!!!! OMIFRIGGINGAWD.

you should make some comics about the cats playing minecraft. xD

    • maryvarn

Nice! Coincidence or did you start the underwater pig farm after you saw the comic? You should send me a screenshot so I can post it. :D

      • Spicytacoman

Completely coincidence, I was halfway through when I took a break and saw this! I’m going to have to rebuild it though, some griefer got to it when I was nearly done… He slaughtered my piggies and broke my glass walls! >:O

        • maryvarn

Oh no! I haven’t ventured into public servers yet. They sound both fun and annoying.

  25. Twilytgardnfaery

*sigh* This interaction could take place in my apartment.

  26. Dreyja

I am, evidently, the only person on the planet who doesn’t play Minecraft and DOESN’T want to! ;) I just don’t get it.

    • maryvarn

I still encounter lots of people who aren’t interested in it, and I think that totally makes sense. It’s a very particular kind of game. Not even so much a game as a dangerous building block set. :D I didn’t get it myself for a long time, until it suddenly sucked me in.

    • Trev

Nope, you’re not. One of my buddies tried to get me to play and I took one look at him demoing his ‘world’ or whatever and said, “Absolutely not.” I’m also afraid to try it myself simply because I don’t want to get sucked in to yet another game. I got to graduate and WoW already takes up enough time!

  27. Ace

Guess it isn’t just me, or my friends. Its actually the future patches that made us decide to quit WoW now. Raiding was just more punishing than it was rewarding. Made us burn out fast, and we were raiding since Vanilla. WoW just doesn’t have a good incentive for us to play now, and everytime Blizzard seems to take notice, they play their “buy a new shiny mount” card. Its also overplayed. My guild and I quit just a few weeks ago.

Perhaps its just us, but Blizzard doesn’t seem to know what they are doing anymore. They failed at “trying to make you feel awesome when you do something right” because the moment one of you fails, it translates that the whole group is bound to fail. We, as a guild, value each other more than game mechanics. I’ve seen people quit before, but not as much as its happening now.

  28. Tahanu
    • maryvarn

Cool!!!! You used a mod for the spawn blocks, right?

      • Tahanu

I use Invedit when making things so I don’t have to hunt rare blocks, or need a normally unobtainable block.
