Everyday without fail, one of the kids would knock over a chair and start crying around the same time. I couldn’t understand why until one day I was paying the rent and saw that the kid was doing it on purpose to get attention from his mother during the his baby sister’s feeding time. I made a vow that any kids that I had would never act like that.

That being said, I immediately become very cautious of who I invite over… because I try to not make life unbearable for my downstairs neighbors. And as for kids… well, perhaps someday I’ll adopt, but it’s not in the cards right now.

I picked the downstairs because of my kids – I didn’t want to bother anyone. The thing is, my building has a crawlspace, so the floor is pretty much one big drum. Thankfully, my kids are usually out cold around 8 PM but the people who live in the other downstairs apartment are nightowls. I’ve had the joy of listening to their 3 kids (aka – the Thundering Herd of Elephants) run up and down and up and down their long hallway until 10, 11, sometimes midnight. Oy…
