The point of the list is so that the person is sure to get you something you want but you don’t know what on the list it is so it’s still a surprise.

Of course that only works if you only get the person one present.

There’s only me, my mum and my dad in my family and we get each other just one present, which means we each only have to buy two presents in total which means we can afford to give GOOD presents.

I think lists are awesome. You get exactly what you want with no fuss. I hate thinking of that special thing that the person didn’t think of. It’s stressful and I’d rather just get the shopping over with and have fun.

Well, my family always had us write a huge list. Twenty or so things, we’d maybe get three or four other things but it gave them an idea of what we’d like.

Heh, reminds me of the wish lists I tend to write. Although my family doesn’t do much in the way of online shopping.

@Fuzzy: In my particular case, it’s still a surprise when you use lists because: 1. I’ve come to expect not to get everything on my list (or even want to get it all at once), and 2. I often get stuff I didn’t ask for, but find myself liking or using anyway.

There has been one major exception to the second rule so far. I like Guitar Hero/Band Hero, but only as a ‘party activity’ thing. So much for ‘quality over quantity.’
