Panel 1: Mike and Lisa are at their computers.
Mike: Leveling through the newly shattered world is great!
Panel 2: Close on Mike
Mike: Everywhere I turn there are new experiences, new lands, new quests. I haven’t been bored once, and I’m already level 59!
Panel 3:
Lisa: Cool! So where are you going now?
Panel 4: Mike smacks his forehead.
Too bad they cut the XP in Azeroth after you reach Level 60.
I planned to level to 61 or 62 before going to Outland, that would have reduced it to 6 levels…
Actually reminds me of some conversations with an online friend today. I was at the dumb end of the conversation. Asking for help in trying to mount a seahorse when I’m actually supposed to mount a sea turtle… >.<
join the club. never played wow, never will. too many web-comincs, too many video-games, too much SCHOOL, too much -3degreesC MINIMUM WEATHER…

…me thinks i need more cocoa.
Everything in WoW is completely new since Cataclysm came. Except for Outlands and Northrend. Which means, when you’re level 59 -> back to boring old things you’ve done a million times.
I burned through Azeroth on my new tauren apaldin. I tried to find something to level in Az but Sithlis had barely been toughed and now the plaguelands were gone so…to hellfire…ugh…15h character through those quests.
I just closed my eyes and blindly followed the guide I had. only part of outlands I always hit and missed now was no Thrall.
My advice: just level in random queue instances from 58-68. Of course, this is much easier if you are a useful class that can tank or heal since queues are nearly instant, but my warrior (level 62 i think) has not set foot on Outlands ground except to turn in the Hellfire Peninsula instance quests.
That’s great advice, and something I should do. I have no idea how to play my lowbie alt classes properly in a group since leveling is a different experience and also so easy these days. Leveling in instances seems like it would be great preparation for the end game!
Yeah, and you get some pretty decent gear along the way for when you hit max level. Quest greens don’t cut it as well as the blues you can get as drops. Queues are SO long for pure dps classes though…
That has always been a problem for any game where leveling fast is simply a matter of grind. You get people who’s only experience is the grind, and no clue how to actually play their character. It’s the main reason why pugging is the russian roulette it is.
Why do people never seem to realize that the point of all games is the journey, and not the end? : /
I had a similar reaction, without playing. Looked over at my brother’s screen to see what brand-spanking new, exciting and fresh zone he’d be in.. Oculus. Because his Mage was only 79, plus needed to level Herbalism. “That boy ain’t right!”
Yes you do…Because in order to skin you have to kill the mob and if you keep it so that you skin things that are your lvl you constantly get xp from skinning
No special advice, just start making comics! To post them online you can do what I do and get wordpress + comicpress. Or if you want something easier to set up you could post them blog-style on a tumblr or blogspot blog. Good luck!
Am I the only one who likes outand?
Knowing the quests by heart helps in doing them faster and if your not a tank/healer you can often do the “kill X boars” quest alot faster.
I like Outland too, mainly because the quests all flowed into one another more smoothly, it seemed. Old Azeroth seemed to jerk and stutter more often than not, in terms of quest flow.
I can understand people who dislike repetition of old material not wanting to go back through Outland. But I happen to be one of those few who don’t really mind going back through old material again. Gives me time to think.
I don’t hate Outland, and there are parts of it I like, such as Zangarmarsh. Not crazy about Hellfire though, and with leveling so fast now, most of our time in Outland is spent there! But yeah, like a few others have said, it’s the repetition that gets me.
With Heirloom gear at least, you’ll be able to go to Northrend at lvl 68 and you’ll hit that (when following a guid intermixed with a few qeues) near the end of Zangarmarsh. They also increased experience gain in northrend, so you wont hit lvl 70 by doing the first few quests in northrend only to discover that the rest of the quests are lvl 71 and up. (been there on my mage :S it sucks…) Add to that that being in a guild gives you another 10% extra experience. that makes the leveling a lot faster… not anymore fun in Outland. But not as long.
Okay, I’ll admit it freely and openly…I. Enjoy. Outland. So no, Gold, you’re not alone. I don’t know – there’s something about Terokkar Forest and Zangarmarsh that I just love. Maybe it’s my IRL appreciation for nature coming to the forebear…I don’t know. What I do know is that I’m FREAKING CONFUSED!!!
Whoa, Tokkar, what’s that? Confused? About what?
Previous comic – they were getting sucked into their computers. Um…what happened to Tron: Legacy?
Ah, great! Kitty tron! Instead of human avatars, there are kitties! Everywhere! Curled up in print spoolers. Catching and releasing spam. Shredding databases and shedding on spreadsheets.
You wonder why it’s so hard to manage the internet? It’s like herding cats!
Honestly I don’t mind going through outlands. Between quests and dungeons you can go from 58-68 in a day if you are a healer/tank. even on my Warlock though I farmed quests w/ the odd dungeon que (bout 15-30 minute wait) and still hit 68 in less than 7 hours
I hated the old world and would grind through it with great pain, running as many instances as I could and getting my husband to solo run me as much as possible just to get to Outlands. I loved leveling in outlands. Everything was so clean and new and I could level really fast and it made me feel like I was accomplishing something. My first few toons through there I never stepped foot in an instance. Mainly because it was before lfg and finding a group was more painful than just questing. I was even more excited to hit northrend for the same reason, but now the old world is the most interesting place and leveling through outlands and northrend, my most favorite areas, are now stale and I can’t wait to get my toons out so I can start on the new content. Such is life though, I suppose.
The downside of the Cataclysm (and presumably large portions of the New Azeroth) is that unless you’re in lockstep with someone, it’s hard to go questing with them. They finish a couple quests and they’re on to a new quest hub that won’t give you anything to do until you get to that point in the stories. The stories are great, mind, but you can’t step in on the middle of them.
Well tue good news is the they have reduced the xp requirements for leveling by soooo much that you can blaze though outlands in no time, hellfire at 58 zanga 60 etc, on a guide I ran to on one of my more recent level ups I skipped 60 % of their suggested questing and was in northrend at 68 in no time
Leveling through the new world is fun? It seemed like the same boring sh*t to me. “Kill 6 giants, collect 8 pieces of gear, rescue 6 guys….” uh, yeah…. boring.
Hah, I would assuming he’s heading for the BC expansion content?
Oh dear, my Human Hunter just encountered this.
And I am bored to tears
How do we love thee, Outlands? Let us count the way.
allow me,
there’s flying when questing and uhh, ummm, err zangramarsh?
Zangarmarsh and Nagrand and errr yeah
Yeah, all my twinks that aren’t 80 are either 58-60 or 70. I don’t think they’ll get much /played time anytime soon.
i got a undead hunter up there only think making me want to go are the unique skins in outland for pets that’s it

Yup, makes no sense to non-wow me.

I had kinda hoped somebody would explain. I haven’t played this game in years, and surely won’t again.
As there’s no explanation to the comic, I’ll assume today was one of the rare instances where npccomic just isn’t funny.

Oh. I see. Thanks!

Just thought you should know the first thing I did when I got internet on my flight was read your comic
On a more related note Outland is annoying but you level really quickly at least!
Hehe, I just got my dwarf mage to level 60 and I feel the same way. I was like “Leveling is awesome! I’ll be 80 in no time! …Crap, Outland”.
My advice: just level in random queue instances from 58-68. Of course, this is much easier if you are a useful class that can tank or heal since queues are nearly instant, but my warrior (level 62 i think) has not set foot on Outlands ground except to turn in the Hellfire Peninsula instance quests.

I do not know if experience in Outlands dungeons has been reduced, but you get very little exp from running Cataclysm (81-85) dungeons.
Perhaps Santa can ride Deathwing on Christmas eve and visit Outland, wreaking havoc and mayhem there…
Oh god, not Outland!
I had a similar reaction, without playing. Looked over at my brother’s screen to see what brand-spanking new, exciting and fresh zone he’d be in.. Oculus. Because his Mage was only 79, plus needed to level Herbalism. “That boy ain’t right!”
Well, technically he would herb/mine/skin for XP until he was about 78, though that would take forever.
But yeah, I agree with Erk. I have a Holy/Prot pally that has been pretty much dungeons all the way.
You don’t get XP for skinning
Yes you do…Because in order to skin you have to kill the mob and if you keep it so that you skin things that are your lvl you constantly get xp from skinning
And the miners and herbalists in your party get to level faster with their extra gathering xp on top of killing things xp.
I always have loved nagrand, but everything else in outland just SUCKS BEYOND BELIEF!!!!!!
ehem. sorry about that.
Side note: I’m thinking about starting my own webcomic about video games and WoW and such. how do I start, o mary the wise?

No, I liked Outland, too. But doing those quests for the Nth time DOES get a tad repetitive.

I hate leveling in outland… so my method is to pick different zones each time I level. That way I’m not doing the same zones over and over again.
I hate outland with a white hot burning passion, espicaly Zangamarsh
