Panel 1: DnD is set up. Mike is the DM.
Lisa: So Mike, how can I tell what my dps is?
Panel 2:
Mike: We don’t use dps meters in D&D, Lisa. You are all working together as a team to overcome the forces that would do you in. It’s not a competition.
Panel 3: Close up of Lisa
Panel 4: Lisa points to Patrick, who is wearing a wizard hat and sniffing because Chloe is on his lap.
Lisa: But I could pwn the pansy wizard in a duel, right?
I want a cat! I have to stop reading this comic! Seriously, everytime I see them i just want them! It would also be a plus if they played wow… also, I think my dwarf hamsters are jealous lol.
Actually Mary, you could say that the angle of the “camera” is higher in panel four (look at the the DM’s screen for reference), so you wouldn’t see the cupcake or papers…
I actually had Mike’s POV when playing WoW. I didn’t (want to) see any aspect of the game as a competition, I saw it as “we’re all working together to stop an enemy we wouldn’t be able to defeat alone.” Maybe that’s why I was always more PvE-oriented. I didn’t really care enough about who was the best to want to try to be the best. If I was up there, yay! If not, oh well, grats to those who are up there.
Please tell me Lisa learns this lesson by the time we’re through!
OMG planel 4 is right on the money! My cats always focus all their attention on the one person/guest that is allergic to pet hair and act so typically smug about it, knowing full well that THEY have the power!!
Long time reader, never posted a comment – but had to post on the awesome reference to the D&D cartoon! Now if only I’d been awake in the middle of the night to beat Jon to the punch…
Oh, and @HardWearJunkie: the thief was totally hot!
Reminds me of the Old Man in Legend of Neil.
Not Old Man, Oold Man

I can see a cupcake in panel 1 that isn’t in panel 4. I guess Mike ate it during panel 3…
Yeah, Mike ate it.
And the papers, um, fell off the the table.
And, um, I’ve never getting hired as a prop master on a movie set. LOL.

Now that I think of it, what edition are they playing?
dont know about the exact reference looks like a priest, bishop dude or something…
He’s the Dungeon Master from the cartoon series
d-mn that unicorn…!
I was wondering if someone else would get that reference.
It’s the Dungeon Master’s robe from the D&D cartoon. I think.
I thought the thief was hot.
YouTube check and I was right.
what, that the Thief was hot?

Awwww, Chloe looks so cute in panel 4.
I agree Chloe looks super cute
Oh dear ..its never a good sign when your DM starts showing signs of LARP withdrawal before the game even starts
At least he’s not an erotic furry, the second to lowest form of geek!

That is SOOO my new screensaver!! ROFL
Full agreement… as an amateur sf/fantasy writer, I definitely agree with all those geekier than me on the hierarchy. ^^b
That always happened to me at our old D&D games….the DM’s cat would be right next to me
It is terrible to have cat allergies AND be a cat lover
Oh snap! Jon and HardWearJunkie in a neck-and-neck race, with Jon the winner by 18 minutes! Grats, Jon.
*awards Jon Ten Points*

lol I love how no one’s mentioned how hardcore you have to be to wear costumes for D&D.
The funny part is that DPR (Damage Per Round) is something tracked and debated upon on the WotC forums.
third slide you have anime eyes
and yes that rhymes… im a poet and i didn’t know it!
and people, who are reading this… who wants Mary to guest star on the Big Bang Theory? hello?
e-mailing Wil Weaton now…. set phasers to stun!
Just don’t call out, “Chopper, sic balls!”
Mary needs to join the Knights of Good, on the guild. Oh and we must not forget the kitties.
I love that he’s dressed like the DM on the old cartoon Dungeons and Dragons. So win.
