Panel 1: Lisa is at the computer with a headset on.
Lisa: Woohoo! Purple dragon boss down! And as usual, I dominated the damage meters!
Panel 2:
Lisa: Guildies, you can thank me for my mad skills in gold and frozen orbs. Preferably in the city so I don’t have to wait for the game-mail.
Panel 3:
Lisa: And if any fellow rogues need tips on how to achieve my level of awesomeness, I’d be happy to share, for a small fee. I’m always a helpful and valuable member of the guild, right guys?
Panel 4: Wide overhead shot of Lisa at her desk.
Lisa: Guys?
Rule of thumb: If you point out that you’re at the top of the DPS meter in a gloating way without prompting, then you will probably find that those guild crafting jobs are soon going to evaporate…
Yeah, being a big DPSer doesn’t exactly rate high on social status meters… Mostly because that class job is always badly overpopulated. Being a great healer or tank gets far more respect. (at the risk of far more DISrespect if you suck at it, than if you suck at DPS)
Another thing, don’t ask for bribes or fees for advice, that just makes ya look bad. Giving it out for free to people who need it goes over way better.
Don’t listen to them, Embrace the wrath of destruction you inflicted on your enemies. Remember, team members can also be considered “decoys” and reminding them of their status in a lauditory fashion will only assist in their progression to “very good decoys”.
P.S. Never forget to thank your Monks in the most honest and sincere way possible. They keep your -ss alive and never forget that
Since ur goin to the “elitist” darkside, u might as well complete the transistion and come the the real darkside. The Horde is always lookin for those who stand out from the rest of the Ally scum. BTW I am my guild’s main tank and I love it.
A guildie told me recently, that PvP has done a lot to hone the skills he also uses for PvE. Not necessarily exclusive.
@Aellos: Tanking is just another skill set to learn. Don’t fear tanking, but do expect to spend some time learning the role.
When crowd control returns (ETA: Cataclysm) you’ll see the “easy” DPS role return to how it was before Wrath … responsible. “Don’t Break the Sheep”, “Why didn’t you sap that guy?”, “I thought you were going to Trap the warrior on the left, dude!” “Be careful with those Fears, you warlock! Wanna aggro every mob in the place?” The tank doesn’t do it alone. Or at least they didn’t…
@mary: Um… Frozen Orbs? At least on my server, you can barely give them away, any more. And love the judgemental cupcake…
Yea i do that sometimes….then my wife smaks me acroos the head and I come back down to Earth lol
on a side note Awl if u wanna top charts as lock …roll Demo! in 10mans i usully top the damage chart on LK attempts. not so much dps but its the damage that counts =)
Eirik, I tanked a bit on another game, and I was okay, but I guess it’s just because I learned how to play MMOs on a DPS thus I’m stuck with it. That and you can’t tank while dual weilding!
Personally, I feel nothing beats the raw adrenaline rush of calling down hellfire to nuke an entire mob, or that of keeping your party alive as a healer even though the S*@t hit the fan on your run and everyone is running for their lives.
Oddly, I don’t see anything wrong with a little damage meter gloating. Frankly, if you’re there as a DPS, you’re there to bring all the damage you can. The guy who pulls 1k more DPS than his closest competition deserves as much praise as the “hero” tank and/or healer. Having played all 3 roles extensively in raids, I can say with absolute certainty doing any of the 3 roles *well* is roughly equal in difficulty to the others. Arguably, its easier to be successful at being bad at DPS than tanking or healing, since being bad at tanking or healing usually means an instant group wipe. Bad DPS may wipe a group, and it frequently does, but its less likely to be instantaneous, and they’re less frequently called out on it as an individual.
In fact, tanking for many encounters is flat out easier than DPSing since you get a free pass on many encounter mechanics simply by virtue of having aggro on the boss. At the same time, the difficulty involved with healing is usually a direct corollary to how stupid the people are you’re healing. Stupid raiders/group=difficult healing. Smart raiders/group=boring healing (in general).
Before I get off my soapbox, the final consideration would be: if you dislike someone beating you on damage, then do more yourself. Its a simple matter of putting forth more effort for the vast majority of players. Research your class, examine your gear and spec, retune your UI a bit, and give that arrogant sunovab***h a run for their money. Otherwise, quit your crying.
Technically since it is Halion it is impossible to say if she really topped the meters as she cannot track the other half of the raid. In that fight there are two phases and you can only see and therefor track people in your phase. She would likely only be comparing herself to other melee and not to ranged.
Never have you garnered the instant contempt of so many players as with this comic lol Maybe you should have had her cats do an intervention like when she was playing the priest like a rogue (e.g. have the cats jump on her mute button or knock off the headset before she said something so immodest).
I always pictured Lisa as the ‘false modesty’ kind of girl. I would have imagined her saying things more like “Oh really it was nothing, I’m sure that dps meter must not be accurate since no one was within 1k dps of me. Of course I’d be more than happy to teach any of my guildies how to play their rogue better.
Too bad she decided to out herself as a narcissist instead. DPS meter = top, Respect meter = bottom
didja all miss the part where no one was talking to her anymore?
maybe an intervention does occur in the next strip, or we get to see her moped out cause none in her guild will talk to her… worse, maybe tossed for attitude…
or, ya know, it’s red kryptonite day or something.
Advocate might agree with me here. It might be MORE fun to heal an inexperianced group than a group which has run that dungeon two dozen times.
With an inexperianced group it is far more challenging to keep that party alive which makes your job a hell of a lot more fun and interesting. As a healer, there are times when I actually root for the dungeon against my team just so I get some serious action in…..and then still save all their pitiful lives!
Conceited much? I mean, I’m all for giving out advice to people to help them bolster their damage, but asking for PAYMENT? I’m sad to say I left WoW shortly before IC came out, so I don’t know how much things have changed, but I know that never did any of the top damage dealers show anywhere near such levels of conceit. Rather, because the same people always got the top 5, usually in the same order each week, it became sort of routine, and only in the rare occasion someone stepped up and competed did anyone really take notice.
Now, I was a hunter, so thus I was devoid of what seems to be the typical douchebaggery that rogues exhibit – this comic only furthers my prejudice of them. After every fight, whether I did more damage or less than my fellow hunters, I’d always chat with them to see what we could do better, whether it was on my shoulders to improve or theirs. Was I ever top DPS? A couple times, and though I did brag a bit, it was more out of shock that I somehow did better than those around me. Did I consider myself the best? Hell no, I knew I had a LONG way to go to be anywhere near the best, either on the server or in the world.
lol…how worked up is everyone getting over this.
I could be wrong, but im fairly sure this is a 1-off rhetoric type comic. IE, gloaters are wankers, and noone will talk to you
as for when praise is appropriate…I totally agree @Advocate. Im my guilds MT, and will 100% agree that on 90% of fights the tanks get it way easy. PP and dream are a little more involved than normal, but as you say mostly you dont have to bother about the mechanics of the fight, just tank the boss in the right spot and dont lose aggro.
SO, yes, good dps IS worthy of praise. But in general its not just topping the meters, but making sure you’re in the right place at all times
It can honestly be hard. and feel good at the same time. I normally top dps meters in my raids, and I always give myself the largest pat on the back possible. However, I am also aware that my guildies may not share the same enthusiasm (and some probably despise me in secret) which is why I do not ever gloat about it. Even when someone asks for a report, I let someone else go ahead and post it. Lesson here is action speaks louder than words, so why speak at all?.
Despite the debate about the use of DPS meters, it remains that a LOT of people use it. They already know who’s at the top. But keeping it silent, keeping it simple earns you a lot more respect. Even if the inner you wants to brag so bad, don’t. It’s hard to be humble, or at least play humble when you are innately not. >_>
heheh, suckmydagger goes here? some people who decided to look that up (for strangely obvious reasons… eww) and dont know your comic will be very confused.
hmmm… snobby and over proud, very unlike lisa
Sometimes I say things like this in my head. Yep, you’re welcome guy =P I would never say it though.. maybe xD

It’s even worse, coming from a Gnome rogue.
Never topped a damage meter :’(
d-mn warlock nerfs
I know some locks that kick -ss in ICC on the charts, keep at it. you can do it!
I’ll take some of those tips, but no way would I pay for em to someone who wants to be that air headed. rofl
Maybe I’m wrong here but didn’t lisa suck at pve and excelled at pvp before? Guess i’ll have to flip back to the start and read them all again…. =)
I like seeing this other side of Lisa, it’s hot!
Don’t go to the dark side and become an elitist!!
Zorland, and that’s the reason why I ONLY play DPS. Too much responsibility for a tank or healer to be fun for me.
Don’t listen to them, Embrace the wrath of destruction you inflicted on your enemies. Remember, team members can also be considered “decoys” and reminding them of their status in a lauditory fashion will only assist in their progression to “very good decoys”.

I think its ok to gloat but asking for tips for doing your basic job in game is a bit overboard
Eirik, I tanked a bit on another game, and I was okay, but I guess it’s just because I learned how to play MMOs on a DPS thus I’m stuck with it.
That and you can’t tank while dual weilding!
“FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUU D:”
stupid rogues muttermutter filthy ninjas mrglmrgl stunning me for 30+ seconds in pvp muttermutter…..
At least shes a gnome, I MUST STOMP!!!!!
Too bad my tauren druid is a healer now. But hey, who doesn’t love a treeler?
“hello? anybody there?”
^^
Personally, I feel nothing beats the raw adrenaline rush of calling down hellfire to nuke an entire mob, or that of keeping your party alive as a healer even though the S*@t hit the fan on your run and everyone is running for their lives.
Its part of what makes the experiance great.

TL;DR: A little humility goes a long way.
