The rule in my family is that if you can’t work the technology, you can’t have the technology. And considering my mother just got an iPad for her birthday and hasn’t asked me a think about how to work it, I’d say it’s finally working.
my grandmother is one of those ‘feebly unable & hopelessly lost’ people. i have to go to her house a few times a week just to close all the email windows she leaves open – because she can’t find the desktop (of course, she doesn’t know it’s called the desktop). i’m so over explaining or drawing things out for her (yes, i have pinned instructions and drawings to her wall for her to follow – and she still is as lost as an ice-cube in a hail storm).
on the other hand, my son’s grandmother (my mom)is incredibly tech-savvy… and whenever/if ever he has children, their grandmother/father (yes, me and my wife) will be incredibly tech savvy (not to toot my own horn).
In my case, use of tech seems to run in my family. I don’t know how many are ‘savvy,’ but many of my relatives are at least comfortable with using technology… including at least two of my grandparents. The other two… Well, I’m not sure about the one grandpa (I think he’s okay), though I do know the one grandma sometimes has trouble. She’s asked for my help on this one computer that I gave her more than once…
My grandmother’s on Facebook more than I am, and sends me text messages all the time. My mother is into web design. Both of them are as tech-savvy or moreso than I am.
My grandma can’t even work the blender, let alone a computer. Good thing she doesn’t have one, she might try to make soup with it. Of course, she also puts batteries in the freezer, so… I guess she’s kind of a lost cause for technology. -_-;
My mom, on the other hand, is okay with Facebook, but she only really uses it because she thinks it’s “neat” that she can use it from her kindle.
My father makes soup with his blender. Apparently it works if your blender is expensive enough. I never would have guessed that kitchen machines came in different kinds…
I have to say I like the tag on this; granny-1337.
Also I vote for granny-1337 to be retconned as Lisa’s grandmother and insperation for her wowaholism. Which works even better if her mother/father are complete technophobes…
My Gramma sure ain’t tech-savvy, other than knowing just about everything there is to know about Microsoft Office in all it’s incarnations. My Grampa, however… That man has programming deals with the big three motor companies, has every latest version of things I don’t even know how to describe, and routinely kicks my arse in HALO. Dear lord he’s some sort of techno mutant because I sure as heck don’t know how to work my computer as well as him…
I have one grandmother that has been teaching computer science classes since the early 80′s. She knows pretty much everything there is to know about a mac or pc.
Then there is the other grandma that keeps asking us, “whats a google?”
Wonders if my Mom could use it. Nah probably not.

Funny thing is my Grandmother is about 50 times more computer savvy than my mother
it’s all about perspective, i guess.

So.. do you expect your son to spawn offspring anytime soon? Because 2010 tech just isn’t going to cut it as “tech savvy” in 20 years.

So I write instead.

Hey! I stick batteries in the freezer all the time. It helps preserve them from slowly losing their charge.
I’m a computer repair guy, webdesigner, and android developer.

why does that old lady look like bink? lol
The fastest growing population is women 55 -65: that’s not going to stop me from sending this to my mom though.
feel sorry for her, she looks as disgusted as the caveman on the commercials that say “it’s so easy a caveman can do it” lol
She’s got the head-set and the multi-box setup, I’m gonna assume it’s the condescension she can’t stand.
Your grandma drawing is soon awesome!!!

Why is it that I can run computers and my grandparents can’t, but they can program the VCR when I can’t figure it out?
because real tech users use DVR
