I’m so glad I have an edition of this with the Phil art. I’m a little sad to hear they didn’t keep it.

By the by, the Twonky is considerably older than this game. It’s from a famous science fiction short story of the same name by Lewis Padgett (pseudonym for the couple Henry Kuttner and Catherine Moore), published in 1942. Back then, the Twonky was a cabinet radio which could walk and do things. The idea of its usual appearance – a television with legs, basically, comes from a fun-but-cheesy 1953 film adaptation of the short story.

Most robot-type NPCs and such in WoW are SF jokes. Virtually everything in the Fizzcrank Airstrip area is an SF joke of some kind or another. It annoys me when I see a quest guide for “The Sub-Chieftains” and people say, “Oh, the Twonky, that’s a piece in RoboRally.” You kids today; no sense of history

I’ve had this game since it first came out back in the 90′s. It is one the the best board games ever! My copy is a little worn out, but my boys and I still enjoy dragging it out and watching poor Twonky and his friends get smashed. Good times…

I played that game back when it came out but had a hard time finding it. I was so glad when Avalon Hill released it again! I bought it right then, a few years ago. Too bad my friends don’t enjoy it as much as I do, it’s one of my favorite board games.
