I do not have any kind of workout schedule, and my physical activity is limited to walking and occasionally going swimming, hiking, etc. Obviously, I could do better, but I'm 100% healthy, even if I'm not at all 'fit', so I doubt I'll ever make a commitment to more excercise and less video games.

I swim a minimum one hour a day all summer. I do no other exercise in the summer or winter ... the Wii Fit balance and body control tests during your daily weigh in don't count as working out, right? :-s

Answered i could do better. Work on the Farm in Iowa yes farmers can be gamers too play WoW in the wee hours of the morning besides my D&D group once a month. in the past 14 years since high school Beer has been little to good to me and the fact that i have a full breakfast, "Dinner" what some of you call lunch, and supper have added the the "keg" belly to me. I get winded alot faster than i use to and dont have near the flexability any more ether. That being said sports are out just not enough time nor do i really like hanging with jocks and exercise just seems pointless plus the whole time thing. soooo comes down to diet I like to eat fatty foods and i dont see that changing soo guess i will die at 75 80 instead of 90 oh darn i miss lossing my mind, not being able wipe my own butt, or feeding myself.

It isn't that simple. For starters, a healthy body primarily improves your life if you live a very active life - going out with friends, exploring the wilderness, joining local sports teams, etc. If, like most gamers, you spend most of your time indoors, staring at a screen, and usually only go out to, let's say, hang out in a bar or watch a game with friends, then having a fit body isn't exactly necessary.

"But exercising every day can help you live longer!" By how much? 1, maybe 2 years if you exercise an hour a day, every day? If we assume the average age people die is 50, and you start exercising every day at age 20, you actually spend around a year and a half of your life just to earn that extra 1-2 years on earth. And that only gets worse the longer you're alive. If the average age were, say, 70, you'd be spending roughly 2 full years of your life exercising. Even if you gain more time from the exercise, say another year or two, you're still spending more than half the time you gain on exercising.

Most people only get so many hours a day/week to themselves. Personally, if I had to spend all my free time exercising just so I could live longer, I'd begin to question the point of it. What am I gaining if I'm using all of MY free time, the only time of day when I can do whatever I want, on something that will only increase my years alive, not make those years any more enjoyable. Now yes, there could be long-term bonuses of having a healthy body, and it doesn't take much effort to have a "healthy" body instead of a "fit" body, but for the most part, too many people worry about having a "fit" body that they spend all their free time working towards it, and end up missing out on enjoying the time they have.
