“Panel 1:
Kendra: So you DO play!
Lisa: Yeah! I thought you didn’t though! Why did you say you were wearing that shirt ironically?
Panel 2:
Kendra: Well why did you ask me that in the first place? Why didn’t you just tell me that you play?
Panel 3:
Lisa: I….
Panel 4:
Kendra: Indeed.
Lisa: Sometimes it’s hard being a girl gamer.
Panel 5:
Lumberjack guy: Blah blah, it’s so hard being a girl gamer.
Goth guy: Yeah, guess who has an easier time getting a date.”
It’s a supply and demand thing. There are still many more boy-gamers than girl-gamers. Boy-gamers could get non-gamer girlfriends, but they’re pretty likely to be forced to “make the choice” at some point. It always seems to me that the girl-gamers that are remotely interesting are already taken
Bah. Silly boys. None of the guys I’ve ever dated has been a gamer, and my husband certainly wasn’t (and really isn’t other than very casual thanks to my influence). But then, I’m also a fitness freak, something most gamers seem to think is insane.
Hey hey hey now….just because we prefer to sit down in front of the comforting glow of our monitors and do battle with the forces of the Alliance for nigh on six hours at a time does not mean that we are opposed to exerting ourselves in a physical manner….
Sometimes I run out of soda and I have to WALK to the refridgerator to get another two liter.
I think its more exceptable for men to be gamers then girls. If a girl meets a boy and he plays then its ok.. most of the time, but if a guy is not a gamer, and his girlfriend is, that might be weird. I can’t really imagine a guy waiting around for his gf to finish a raid xD ‘ah sorry, Katies running late coz she’s in ICC’ hahahaha.
It can be hard to be a girl gamer, people treat you differently. People seem to swoop on you if they know you’re single =( used to be flattering but now, not so.
Kenya (hope thats her name) looks so angry! Poor Lisa <3
WoW … or any online game … just isn’t a dating service of any variety. And WoW is where I meet the most strangers in anything like a social situation. A demographics survey
The odds of me encountering someone even in the right age/gender range are unlikely. And given my experiences when I really WAS encountering strangers of the appropriate range (school/college), finding someone compatible becomes something that requires scientific notation to measure.
Not to mention: The modern Romeo and Juliet – He was a human on Chromaggus, she a Tauren on Blackwater Raiders. More than just their guilds kept them apart…
Just went through the whole webcomic. Freaking awesome. Kudos Mary
Now you made me think : if I was born a girl, I would be Lisa. Seriously. And do want cats like Bink and Chloe too.
I’m gonna show this webcomic to my sister. She’s not as good in English as I am (we’re French) but she’s much more MMO-addict than I’ll ever be. And yes, I am the one who converted her :p
I think that whilst the last panel makes a very good point (and made me laugh!), girls get a lot more crap IN-game, which is a real shame.
Perhaps if we treated women better in-game then there would be more gamer girls, and therefore gaming would be seen as less uncool, which would mean more dates for the guys? Just a thought.
I personally don’t think that the issue is that girls get treated worse in game. I believe it is that most players will assume it is a male playing and give them absolutely no special treatment that we would generally give girls in rl. At least, that is how i act ingame. So i guess a lot of girls are learning what it is like to be one of the guys. I am not saying that this is always the case, but we guys do give each other a lot of crap
It really isn’t as easy as some make it sound to get a date as a girl gamer.
Sure, my male friends have all had a crush on me at some point… but half of them I don’t exactly want to date. >_>
I’m a female gamer and I can say this. Other females thinks your weird, they’re jealous at you because of unwanted attention. I’ve always had it very easy to talk to guys. Back in the days when I played quake, wc and cs, it was just natural to have a subject to talk about with the guys. But it also made me a freak.
Despite more and more females playing mmorpgs it’s still considered to be something awful for a woman to do. We’re supposed to be running the mall up and down, buying shoes all day long according to stereotypes. Which is what I don’t like, once or twice per year is enough.
Then we got the girls that play games on facebook, they’re the worst kind:
- Eww you play wow, loser
- You play farmville, not that big difference
Doublemorale much? They spend just as much time as me on just clicking around in a browser game >.<
But I really like this comic, brings a smile to my face whenever I see an update out
Kelz just sounds picky then. Whether it be true or not a male gamer has a really annoying stereotype labeled on them. I avoid telling someone i take on a date unless they ask.
Tis only easier for girls because we don’t seem like wimps if we’re too shy to ask a guy out, it seems endearing or is expeceted from us. Whereas you poor guys have to keep trying and getting rejected until a girl decided to give you a slice of her time. I have always dated nice guys because I give everyone a chance, I hate the girls that complain about always getting with losers…date someone to is less of a Narssacist/good looking-douche then.
Hey people. Just an off-topic question. I don’t know anyone IRL who play WoW, and I’m more the kind of guy who play single-player games. I’ve started to play free MMOs only recently, to see how it plays like (I’m always curious about all types of games) and I’ve been wondering, (and no I don’t want to start a troll, I just want a straight answer), what make WoW so cool ? Because, it’s just another MMO, and you have to pay (a lot) to play it, when there is a lot of free MMOs around here. So I just want the opinion from people who like it : what make WoW so cool for you ?
so i only just now figured out that shirt.
(and apparently she has several of them!)
So if I met her IRL i would probably give her the wtf stare
WoW is constantly updated, has a huge community, has a good graphical style, has a variety of things to do, is an immersive experience rather than an applet in your browser.
I pretty much avoid speaking on vent at all costs and run with male avatars. Just part of being treated like a normal human, I suppose. Makes me shy to run with arena pickup teams, due to vent being a necessity. Certainly, breaking some stereotypes about girl gamers, and pvpers on top of it would be beneficial, but I’m usually too tired at the end of the day to want to wade through it.
…IT IS HARD BEING A GIRL GAMER!
Especially if you are parctically the only gamer full-stop taht doesnt just play war games.
I mean, no-one in my SCHOOL would take me seriously if they knew I play [I replaced game name with this to reduce social embarrasment], thats how anti-teen-female-gamist they are.
guys are socialized to think they’re entitled to the attention of women, regardless of whether they’re actually attractive to women or not
women are fed up with trying to weed out the very few guys who consider them to be human, and equal, from the rapists and sociopaths and alcoholics and emotional manipulators (also known as nice guys)
also, she’s not going to drive across three states to date a guy she met last week on the internet, so stop asking
For real!!! =p
It’s funny how many girls think I’m great until they find out I play World of WarCraft. Doesn’t help that I don’t hide the fact though, lol.
Emo guy has a good point!
i concur, emo guy rocks! bring him into the comic more often
last panel is too true.

Exactly. You didn’t date any gamers. You are kinda proving the point of the last panel
I object
Hey hey hey now….just because we prefer to sit down in front of the comforting glow of our monitors and do battle with the forces of the Alliance for nigh on six hours at a time does not mean that we are opposed to exerting ourselves in a physical manner….

Take THAT!
so very very true
But then, I married a normal woman and THEN turned her into a geek
Conversion beam successful, My Lord Arthas…
I introduced my wife to gaming while we were dating… now I’m the casual and she’s the raider. It’s all about the conversion.

“It can be hard to be a girl gamer, people treat you differently. People seem to swoop on you if they know you’re single”
So you are saying that it is hard to be so popular? I think the lonely people have it much worse
Like hell it is easier to get a date as a gamer geek! I’ve been single for nearly a year now with no end in sight…

I dont think larping and that beard/ stache combo is helping you -_-
and girls DO have it easier
however there is no shame in saying you play game, your doing something you enjoy and screw what other people think
the man in black has a very very good point -_-
lady gamers no complain
‘It’s so hard being a girl gamer’…Ever heard the rants from an anime fangirl? xD
Just went through the whole webcomic. Freaking awesome. Kudos Mary

Keep up the good work !
Aw thanks!
And thanks to you and all the readers out there who are sticking with the comic despite it being in a second language for you.
No, thank you! And if it weren’t for the fact that you have this thing for Gnome Rogues…..you’d sooo be invited to my guild’s ICC 10 runs.
Much love from the Shadow Priest readership.
Let’s see… Awesome DPS, can spot the traps leading up to Marrowgar, can shut down the frost nozzles after Saurfang, what’s not to like about a rogue?

Great comic as ever.
flawless logic to bad most people dont have that

could we get emo guy to be a permanent member of the NPC family??? pretty Please!!!

It’s not that I’m meaning to be picky, it’s that most of them honestly don’t take particularly good care of themselves.
Yeah saying “Gamer gurl LFG date, pst me” isnt such a good idea
Tis only easier for girls because we don’t seem like wimps if we’re too shy to ask a guy out, it seems endearing or is expeceted from us. WoW is constantly updated, has a huge community, has a good graphical style, has a variety of things to do, is an immersive experience rather than an applet in your browser.
So what does her shirt mean? All I can think about is that the “o” is a substitute “uc”, but that doesn’t seem clever enough for this strip.
The real question is… why is she wearing a scarf with a t-shirt?
Or is it some kind of choker/necklace/hair thing she pulled down.
FoK = fan of knives = rogue AoE spell
I pretty much avoid speaking on vent at all costs and run with male avatars. Just part of being treated like a normal human, I suppose. Makes me shy to run with arena pickup teams, due to vent being a necessity.
