What everyone else said. Also, IF you have spare jalapenos, when he bends down and is frozen, hitting the zomboss with a jalapeno will do massive damage to him. It usually takes him straight through a “phase” of damage (you can tell because he’ll immediately change graphics).
Sometimes you just get bad RNG. Several guargantuars in a row will really tax your defenses, as will several campers. If things are going poorly defensively, you’re close to beating the boss, and you have shrooms and jalapenos to spare, keeping everything frozen while you pound the sh-t out of the boss with jalapenos can help you limp over the finish line.

I really don’t recall where I had my “empty pots so I can put jalapenos”, though I recall that for much of the fight I had a traditional Wallnut defense out front. Much of the time, I saved pots for “just in time” defenses, since anything out in front of my main line got whacked by gargantuas and the occasional mad rush.

I seem to recall putting in pumpkins on bungee targets, to keep the pot around long enough for me to put another plant in before the next wave rolled me over.

I just beat it on the second time through adventure mode last week. It seemed MUCH harder the second time through. Roof cleaners were a must. All the relevant tips are listed above, no reason to rehash them…

Ice shrooms negate the fireballs (anywhere on the screen), and jalepenos negate the ice balls (in the same row as they’re deployed). Armed with that knowledge, the only thing that should typically damage your lines of defense would be when he drops the car.

i’m not sure, but i think freezing the zombies and then firing them up does more damage. Kinda like spell combos, i like to imagine. if not, at the very least they buy you more time. So don’t spam the ice shrooms, space them so that their freeze times do not overlap. Should give you more attack time. If i remember correctly, they work globally, so the row doesn’t matter.

And since the jalapenos attack only one row, i’d rather suggest freezing everybody up when there are multiple gargantuars, use one jalapeno each per row, and let the melons do their work. save one jalapeno too, for when a row is almost completely breached.

took me a couple of tries too, but wasn’t as difficult as i pictured it to be after the first couple of failures

1) I usually have 3-5 rows and put my hardest hitters in the back.
2) Save at least 1 pot, jalepeno, and ice shroom in the queue, only use them on the balls and on big encounters.
3) Wait for the big guys to get closer unless they are squishing your plants. Whenever you can, try to hit as many things with your ice and peppers as possible. Sometimes just being patience can help a lot. It always starts off slow!
4) You can try the roof cleaners, but they aren’t necessary

It is a rather minor point, but (if you haven’t already) go buy the roof cleaners, just in case something gets through once per row.

Follow the other advice above, and those all-destroying orbs that he throws – use Ice Shrooms on the fire ones, and the jalapenos for the ice ones. Then freeze him when he kneels down, and pour fire into him.

Thanks for the tips (especially the non-disparaging ones)! I really am doing all of these things, except I didn’t know that I could down the giant zombies with two jalapenos. That’ll help. I bet I could have even beaten it last night when I got so close if I had realized that.
