People are jammed in pretty much past the American standard “personal space” limit. Great for company “floorspace rent” figures, bad for employee retention. I could not work for long in those conditions.

Precisely the reason the “anti-distraction hoodie” is useful. … and also why it might seem to coworkers off-putting.

Company I worked for a bit ago avoided the “employee cage” aspect of cubicals by having air walls breaking up spaces, with the backs of the workspaces open to the center of the room. Personal space of a sort, with air holes so the employee doesn’t suffocate. :)
