Poll Results: Do you authenticate your WoW account?

A couple weeks ago I took a poll of fellow WoW players to see how many are authenticating. The results from this very unscientific poll were encouraging – out of 477 who voted, 310 use a Blizzard authenticator to protect their account. 167 do not. Two thirds of those already using an authenticator at the time of the poll had been using it before the Core Hound pet was released as an in-game reward for having an authenticator connected to your account. The comments are an interesting read, with stories from various readers of why they do or don’t use an authenticator. Thanks to all who participated!

I wanted one anyway. Much to my chagrin, the promo was done before I bought mine. /sad I collect pets, so I am sorry to have missed this one.

That doesn’t make any sense. The Core Hound pet is supposed to be a way for people to prove in-game that their account has an authenticator. That way guilds could require that you have one for guild bank access, etc. It even goes away if you remove the authenticator from your account. They’ve treated it as an authenticator “proof” and not as a promotional item, so I don’t know why they would get rid of it.
Its still going, I just set one up for my girlfriends account last night and she had it in the mail when she logged in.
My guild has a rank for people that have not “Shown an officer their dog” and other ranks for those who have. Obviously the first rank has no bank access. Works out pretty good!
Sorry to be a pedantic dork, but the phrasing of the survey options rules out many yes answers. What about those of us who got our authenticators later, but not because of the pet offer? One of my guildies was hacked. After that we decided to require authenticators for guild bank access.

Hmm. good point. I need to get better a writing poll answers. I always find some way to screw it up.
