Cat spit is laden with a billion types of bacteria and highly infectious. Something feral cats like to do is merely =wound= their prey, then retreat to a distance and track it as it limps 'home', in the hopes that they'll find the rest of the family, so they can kill and eat that, too, as well as finding a nice, warm place to sleep.
