Saturday Sketch Dump: Revenge of the Chickens

Still no buffer as I finish up this freelance gig. But having a great time drawing the comics! I put on Scott Kurtz’s ustreams when I could and learned a thing or two. For the uninitiated, Scott Kurtz is the creator of the PVP strip, and he’s really refined his art over the years. He draws lines so smooth and sharp, they could be used in corrective eye surgery. Anyway, this week I tried out one of the methods *I think* he uses, for shading. Once the flat color is done, dupe the layer and up the curves so the new layer is darker and more saturated. Then erase the highlights. I’m playing with how much I want to erase…do I want mostly shaded areas, or mostly highlighted areas? Still figuring that out. But the duping the layer thing really saves me time. That way I don’t have to get each special shade color and paint it on.
