I watched the streamed BlizzCon coverage of Cataclysm, and I’m so excited about the next expansion. But I have tons of questions! Hopefully some of them will be answered tomorrow at the Q&A. And maybe some of them were answered already and I was too distracted by excitement to realize. Feel free to add yours to the list in the comments.
Will the number of characters per server we’re allowed increase from 10?
New Druid cat and bear forms for trolls and worgen I assume?
Will a lot of certain old world quest lines be gone forever?
Does this mean a lot of achievements will be turned into feats of strength?
How is the guild leveling mechanic handled when people change guilds?
And what about multi-guild raids? What bonuses go where and to who and when?
Even though they haven’t said it, I have to imagine they’ll extend the character slots per realm to at least 15. A big part of the XPac seems to be to encourage rolling alts (new old world, new races, new class combos) so it would make sense they’d want to make rolling alts as easy as possible.
Here’s hoping!
P.S. Also hoping that when the new, uber-connected B.net goes live we can have cross realm/faction herilooms!
I’d hope we’d see more character slots… as to some quests going away for good, yes. From Blizz’s FAQ: “Will I need the expansion to be able to experience the Cataclysm changes?
When the Cataclysm occurs, it will occur for all players, whether they have purchased the expansion or not–you will no longer be to play in the original version of Kalimdor or the Eastern Kingdoms.” So, zones get revamped and many quests will go away. As for the leveling, I’m pretty sure the levels are associated with the -guild- so when you change guilds you pick up at whatever stage they are at.
I find myself thinking that this is essentially going to be WoW II, rather than a real expansion, so continuity with the old world is probably going out the window. Now, its not necessarily a bad thing of course, but I think it would be better if Blizzard just said this is what they were doing up front

:
1. The number of characters preserver are NOT being increased from 10. Not many people have 10 characters that they play all the time.
2. Troll and Worgen druid will have new forms, for all the forms I believe
3. Some will be gone forever (they’re splitting The Barrens into two different zones, Darkshore is getting revamped) But a lot will be staying, I think, and new ones will be added. The rewards for all the quests are getting looked at though, to make sure they’re good.
4. I don’t see a lot of achievements being affected. If anything, they may make it easier to track and obtain Lore Master.
5. That is a good question that didn’t get asked. We do know that guild recipes and guild heirloom items stay behind when someone leaves a guild.
Thanks for the comments guys, and thanks for your answers, Orkchop. Where did you hear that they aren’t increasing the character slot number? I heard Frank Pearce talking about it, but he seemed to just say he didn’t know of any plans. I really hope they change their minds on this one. It seems like a no-brainer. I for one and am going to want to make at least 3 new characters just to experience all the new old-world zones. Leveling will be so different and hopefully more fun for us. I know I can just make more alts on another realm, but it’s so much nicer to have the option to be with friends.
Someone asked about it during the WoW Q&A panel. I think they’ll get a lot of pressure to up it as the expansion gets closer.
Most important question I have is… -=when=- will Cataclysm be released? I’ve been doing just fine going through Wrath content and all of a sudden I hear about Cataclysm and am like “must have now”.
